Earth Day 2016 Announcement

This year, we celebrate Earth Day with an update on one of our boldest initiatives to date.

Exactly a year ago, on Earth Day 2015, Bow Street Market led the way in Freeport by eliminating single use plastic checkout bags and encouraging our customers to bring their own bags by giving away 1,000 reusable totes. We hoped to save about 600,000 bags.

As of Earth Day, 2016 we’ve calculated this move resulted in 743,993 plastic bags eliminated from the waste stream. One change, one company, almost 3/4 of a million bags saved.

We celebrated by giving a new bike to the customer who guessed the closest to the actual number, and we extend sincere thanks to all our customers for continuing to bring reusable totes & helping to make a positive impact in our community!
